Ubuntu è la distribuzione Linux che va più di moda negli ultimi anni: è finanziata da una grande azienda (Canonical), è leggera e allo stesso tempo completa (si installa da un CD), è notevolmente migliorata e sta migliorando di release in release e soprattutto sempre più spesso viene utilizzata anche in ambito aziendale.

Amd ha rilasciato da qualche giorno la nuova release dei driver ATI Catalyst™, la 10.5.

Le novità introdotte non sono molte rispetto alla versione 10.4; troviamo il supporto a Suse Linux Enterprise Server  11 SP1.

Per quanto riguarda la lista dei bugfix, ecco cosa è stato risolto:

• Enabling Hybrid CrossfireTM no longer causes dmesg to report an error after starting X
  Screen no longer turns blank if the other monitor is unplugged in dual-head mode
• [RHEL 5.4 x86_64] Kernel panic no longer occurs during system hibernation with PCI cards
• [PowerXpress] Turning off the discrete card no longer causes the system to report a failure
• 1080i30 and 1080i25 HDTV modes can now be applied for HDMI/DVI/DP displays

Di release in release, i Driver Ati/Amd si portano dietro un fastidioso problema sul ridimensionamento, massimizzazione e minimizzazione delle finestre: per qualche istante il sistema non risponde (lag).

Facendo qualche ricerca sul web ho trovato la soluzione per questo problema valida anche per Ubuntu 10.04…..
