Disponibile VMware vSphere ESXi 5 Update 1

Ecco disponibile il primo aggiornamento cumulativo per la piattaforma di virtualizzazione base-metal VMware vSphere ESXi 5: l’aggiornamento Update 1 porta con se numerosi hotfix e qualche novità, vediamo insieme :

  • Support for new processors – ESXi 5.0 Update 1 supports new AMD and Intel Processors. See the VMware Compatibility Guide for details.
  • Support for additional guest operating systems – ESXi 5.0 Update 1 adds support for Mac OS X Server Lion 10.7.2 and 10.7.3.
  • New or upgraded device drivers – ESXi 5.0 Update 1 adds support for Native Storage Drivers for Intel C600 series chipset and upgrades LSI MegaRAID SAS driver to version 5.34.
  • Resolved Issues – In addition, this release delivers a number of bug fixes that have been documented in the Resolved Issues section.

Disponibile Citrix XenClient 2

Dopo l’annuncio del 25 Maggio 2011 durante il  Citrix Synergy™ di San Francisco, ieri Citrix ha reso disponibile per il download la release 2 del suo client Hypervisor, XenClient.

XenClient è lo strumento necessario per rendere il servizio di Desktop Virtuale disponibile in modalità off-line su notebook e desktop certificati: tra le novità della versione 2 c’è proprio l’ampliamento della compatibilità sui dispositivi.

Sony Vaio, Ati Radeon, Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx e le ventole impazzite

La  release di Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx porta con se molte novità, anche dal punto di vista del supporto nativo alle schede video Ati, Nvidia e Intel: eseguendo una installazione da zero ci troviamo il sistema pronto e funzionante out of the box, anche per quanto riguarda il sistema grafico 2D e 3D.

Ho avuto però un fastidioso problema che sembra comune a molti utenti…

UPDATE: ATI Catalyst™ 9.12 Proprietary Linux Display Driver

atiDa un po’ di tempo a questa parte AMD ATI sta lavorando moltissimo sullo sviluppo dei driver per le sue schede grafiche in abienti Linux 32bit e 64bit, rilasciando con cadenza mensile nuove versioni del pacchetto di Drivers Catalyst.

Pian piano ATI sta recuperando il GAP sul supporto ai sistemi operativi Linux che aveva con NVIDIA fino a qualche anno fa.
